Designing a Custom Minimalist Wall-Mounted Speaker Shelf
As an audiophile and DIY enthusiast, I recently tackled the challenge of creating a custom wall-mounted shelf to house my network stereo speaker in my bedroom. The placement of the speaker was critical, needing to be positioned just right for optimal sound quality while also being in close proximity to the power outlet.
To achieve this, I carefully took measurements of the speaker’s dimensions and the available wall space. I then designed the shelf to discreetly conceal the power cord while keeping the overall profile as minimal and unobtrusive as possible. This was no easy feat, considering the speaker weighed a hefty 4 kilograms.
I decided to 3D print the shelf using white matte PLA on my Bambu Lab H2D printer. The advantages of this approach were numerous:
- Customization: By designing the shelf myself, I could tailor it perfectly to the speaker’s size and the wall space, ensuring a seamless, clean installation.
- Concealment: The 3D printed design allowed me to incorporate features that would hide the power cord, making the shelf appear almost floating on the wall.
- Aesthetics: The matte white finish of the PLA complemented the speaker’s sleek appearance, creating a cohesive and visually appealing setup.
Printing the shelf was not without its challenges, however. Due to the speaker’s substantial weight, I had to ensure the design was structurally sound to prevent any sagging or failure. This involved carefully calculating the load-bearing capacity and reinforcing the shelf accordingly.
The final result is a minimalist, custom-designed wall-mounted speaker shelf that seamlessly integrates with my bedroom’s decor. The concealed power cord and unobtrusive profile create a clean, modern look, while the sturdy construction securely holds the speaker in place.
