Flare: A Premium Stylus For The Tech-lover With Everything

I have always loved fountain pens, mechanical pencils, and other writing instruments, I’ve been intrigued by the transition from traditional tools to the digital realm. I’ve often wondered why no brand has emerged to offer a truly premium experience for using a stylus on a touch screen, Wacom tablet, or drawing tablet.

As a designer and artist, I deeply understand the importance of having a strong connection with the tools of our craft. The physical object that touches your hand is an extension of your own creativity. This project was an exploration of creating a brand that could deliver that exceptional experience.

Inspired by Sailing

The key design challenges for this project were to create a stylus that would be ambidextrous, premium in both look and feel, and inspired by the elegance and excitement of sailing. After studying the architecture and curvature of sailboats, I settled on calling this stylus “Flare,” a reference to the upward curve of the bow.

I wanted to experience the joy of a thoughtfully designed instrument that becomes an extension of your own hand. I envision it being made of inset silver inlay, traditional fountain pen resins and composite materials used in sailing. It aims to be a joy to hold in the hand and exciting to see on a desk.
